Abstract

Since the advent of chemotherapy for various infections the incidence of serious complications has been remarkably reduced, and yet we have still not infrequently found cases of otogenic complication.
Here we report a case of an inflammatory polyp embraced a living parasite (sarcophaga fuscicauda) within a simulated simple mastoidectomized cavity following the spontaneous rupture of a suspicious subperiosteal abscess in the course of chronic suppurative otitis media with mastoiditis.
The mastoid cavity was fairly well epithelialized.
The same parasite was found in the middle ear cavity coincidently.
Some discussions were made on this unusual case of otogenic complication.
